Community Programs

The Darwin Convention Centre community involvement includes:

Henbury School. The Centre provides sponsorship for its annual fundraising luncheon and auction items. Our Executive Chef is assisting the school with their new café in providing new menu ideas and taking Centre staff out to the school to teach preparation skills in the kitchen.  The Centre also employs two students from Henbury.

Variety – the children’s charity.  We host over 2,000 children at the Centre for the annual Christmas Party. The Centre provides sponsorship, staff support, product donation and volunteers for the event.

Paspaley Star Ball.  We are a Platinum sponsor of the Paspaley Star Ball to support the fundraising efforts for the local Starlight Foundation.

Karen Shelden Future Stars Program. We support the Future Stars Program that provides training and mentoring to Indigenous jobseekers.  We have employed staff in a variety of roles who have graduated through the program.

The Centre has partnered with local Larrakia artist, Gary Lang, on several collaborations. Gary has developed a piece of artwork called Bag of Knowledge, that the Centre have used to represent the way knowledge, culture and history are gathered, nurtured and shared. Gary has also choreographed performances for various Centre functions.

Other activities.  We also support other local organisations including:

  • Monthly recycling donations to the Down Syndrome Association
  • Donate food to the Sommerville Christmas Appeal
  • Utilise the services of HPA for convention satchel packing
  • Donate leftover event material to Darwin’s special needs schools
